Colorado Springs branch office of Denver metro area law firm is seeking a legal assistant/paralegal with insurance defense/civil litigation experience. Computer skills should include: WordPerfect X3/Windows 7, legal transcription proficiency, Worldox, Law Tool Box, time keeping/billing/TABS, state & federal e-filing. Bachelor’s or AA Degree and/or Paralegal certificate required. This is the sole staff position for our Colorado Springs office and candidate will work closely with administrative staff in Englewood office to assist with various administrative support tasks in addition to legal assistant/paralegal duties such as: back up tape rotation, phone switch maintenance, troubleshoot copy/fax/printer issues, ordering supplies, billing & accounting support, etc. Ideal candidate should be well-organized, self-motivated professional who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work both individually as well as a team player. Job duties include but are not limited to:
Operates a personal computer, photocopier and facsimile machine; transcribes dictation (digital transcription).
Prepares, drafts and types correspondence, memoranda and other legal documents (i.e., pleadings, disclosures, discovery requests, interrogatories, motions) while under close supervision.
Prepares check requests for client related costs. Forwards approved requests for processing.
Establishes and maintains calendar and deadline reminder systems. Schedule and calendar for attorney client meetings, deadlines, depositions and activities related to depositions (i.e. court reporter, witnesses, opposing counsel).
Opens new files, requests conflict of interest checks with computerized billing system records, and organizes and maintains all client and general files; including updating pleading index, filing, and photocopying. Conducts periodic review of inactive or completed files; prepares files to be closed and sent to off-site storage.
Organize voluminous records, documents, correspondence, files into a manageable format.
Track all requests made for documents and records, follows up on status of requests, and verifies receipt of documents and records.
Contact and interview clients, witnesses, experts, third parties, and opposing counsel to obtain information pertinent to the case matter.
Review and analysis of cases in order to assist in preparation of case for trial.
Record all billable and non-billable time spent on case files and client matters.
