Practice Areas
The six founding members of the firm have more than 175 years of experience practicing law in the principal discipline of insurance defense. In the course of that experience, they have defended nearly every type of civil claim for which insurance coverage exists, litigated questions of insurance coverage from the mundane to the exotic, and handled regulatory proceedings for insurers, as well as individual clients, before a number of different regulatory agencies. It is not the firm’s practice to restrict itself in considering what type of litigation defense work it will do; however, there are several practice areas that the firm is involved in on a regular basis.
Those practice areas are discussed by topic below; however, various members of the firm have experience defending multi-district disaster litigation, including the 1980 fire at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas and the crash of a Continental jet airliner in Denver in 1987. Furthermore, all of the founding members have been involved in defending class actions, mass tort claims, and other complex and extended litigation. This experience translates into the ability to address efficiently and intelligently the more common problems that arise in litigation. While the areas discussed below represent practice facets that the firm encounters and involves itself in frequently, Harris, Karstaedt, Jamison & Powers, P.C., remains ready and committed to address whatever civil litigation problems its clients present.
